Vol. II, No. 1, January 23, 2010 – I see it!I see it! (Update: January 6, 2011--I see it, but haven't quite reached it!)
Happy New Year Rock-n-Roll Radio Lovers!
I see it! I see it! “The End” is a-comin’—and I don’t mean 2012’s doomsday! I can’t tell you how many times over the past six weeks I’ve started this update and never finished it. The week before Christmas I had a Holiday funny line for the lead-in … a few days before the New Year, I was waxing philosophical … now Valentine’s Day is just around the corner already and you’re still waiting to feel the love!
It was actually one of you who spurred me into action today, and stopped my freefall into a bottomless, coffee-fueled vat of words. So I’m finally taking a few minutes to let you know that I’m working diligently on Blast from Your Past! and its many internal and external elements.
I hope you too, will soon be laughing hysterically at some of the stories it reveals, or nodding in bemused agreement, or recalling a favorite yesteryear moment. That’s what Blast from Your Past! is all about—Enjoying the moment … again.
FYI, I’m concentrating on the writing for the moment, so there has not been much progress on the cover—but wanted to let you know we’re working on it!
And who was it that speared me into a frenzy today? SoCal’s own frenetic DJ, Shotgun Tom Kelly! I called to congratulate him on his latest marketing coups—an article on TVParty.com (www.tvparty.com/shotgun.html) about his 1974-79 KGTV/San Diego TV show, “Words-A-Poppin’.”
Shotgun won two coveted Emmys for wordsmithing with young’uns and I’ll bet he had more fun than the 5th & 6th graders, who took this word scramble game show verrrrry seriously, according to the article. Read more about his amazing DJ history and other current triumphs on ShotgunTomKelly.com!
When I spoke to Tom I also kiddingly suggested he be my poster-child for Blast from Your Past! for keeping me updated on his current antics, as the book progresses. Before all is said and done … and published … I’ll likely call for fillers from everyone. J Since it isn’t complete yet, BFYP’s pages are still malleable and as such, if you recall any tidbits from your past (1954-1979) rock radio-listening days, or have DJ PHOTOS to share, please send ‘em on over! Have questions? Send ‘em over! I want to hear from you!
FYI, where lacking photos I’ve begun to fill in with vintage radio music surveys—especially those with DJs featured, or a special moment, artist, or commercial product, from our fun-filled past. The surveys and other hand-selected memorabilia (some not included in the book) will be displayed on the website, BlastFromYourPast.NET, and a soon-to-be sister site, BlastFromYourPastCollectibles.com. We’re havin’ fun now!
As always, thank you for your interest and participation, whether as an interviewee, a DJ contact, or just a Rock-n-Roll Radio friend—from my heart to yours—best wishes for a Happy & Prosperous New Year …
Let the good times roll!
